Stars Give Advice To Young Athletes

In association with The Players Tribune and Yahoo Sports, a few well-known athletes sat down to give advice to young girls in the game.

“Don’t be afraid to fail. Failure is a stepping stone to success. And give 100 percent, 100 percent of the time.” – Carli Lloyd, U.S. Women’s national soccer team.

“When god gives you that kind of passion about something, it’s best to go for it.” – Claressa
Shields, Boxer.

“Just have fun. See where the sport can take you, because it can possibly take you very far.”
– Simone Manuel, Olympic swimmer.

“Setting goals, going after them and achieving them is something that can be really powerful
and a lifelong lesson.” – Gwen Jorgenson, Marathon runner

“You have your whole life to work and make money. If you have something you’re passionate about, you should be doing it.” – Monica Aksamit, Fencer

“Do not be afraid to be you. I hid who I was for a lot of years. I just came out last year and it wasn’t something I had accepted myself yet. I want young kids to know that who you are and who you love shouldn’t matter.” – Brooke Crain, BMX racer

Sage advice from women who have achieved a lot in sports.
